AVENIR MEDICAL is a company that has been committed to providing the best quality products and services that improve the quality and comfort of vision. The scope of its business is divided into three categories: Retail, Online/e-commerce and Brands. In the Retail category, we find Twoje Senses, a chain of contact optical stores, and GAFAS Glasses&Sunglasses (formerly De'Lux Optica), a chain of boutique optical stores. In the Online/e-commerce category, meanwhile, we have a number of online stores such as TwojeSoczewki.com, Soczewkowo.pl, Icon-See.com, TwojePierwsze.pl or AllVueApp.com. In the Brands category, meanwhile, we find brands such as Mono Vision, Icon-Eyewear, Turro-Eyewear, Icon-See and Eyefinity. The Your Lenses brand is the company's case driver and was established in 2005 as a response to the growing need for expert contact care. It was the brand that decided to take on the challenge of spreading knowledge in this growing field, where typical optical salons were afraid to get involved. In this case study, we will discuss the Head of IT recruitment process.

 

Challenge

Avenir Medical contacted Fast Forward Solutions in 2020. Avenir Medical's management needed help finding a Head of IT/ E-Commerce to join their business management team in Poland.

Avenir Medical initially searched for candidates on its own. The company even managed to find an "ideal candidate" to whom the company made a job offer, but the candidate declined the offer due to receiving a counteroffer from his current employer. After this incident, the company came to the realization that without professional help it would be very difficult for it to recruit a suitable person for such a responsible position.

 

Action strategy and recruitment process

We started our work with:

Prepare a profile of the ideal candidate-who would combine competence in managing the E-Commerce department and competence in managing the IT department

Develop a sourcing strategy

Mapping the Polish market of E-Commerce companies that could have experienced E-Commerce managers

Develop and implement a communication strategy with candidates

Our sourcing strategy was based on reaching out to candidates using Direct Search methodologies identified using the LinkedIn Professional Recruiter tool, and searching them through our unique candidate database in the E-Commerce and I-Manager categories created with the most modern recruiting tools available on the market today. The challenge was to reach and convince potential candidates to change jobs, who in the highly competitive E-Commerce market know their value and are not willing to make a quick decision to change jobs.

Effects

Within 14 days, we delivered 8 candidates from the best growing E-Commerce businesses in Poland. Avenir Medical offered a job offer to our candidate from an E-Commerce company with a turnover of 200M PLN per year. Unfortunately, the candidate did not accept Avenir's offer due to a counteroffer from his current employer. As a result, the process had to start from the beginning. After 7 consecutive days, we presented Avenir with a candidate who we felt was a better fit than the first candidate offered by Avenir. To our surprise, Avenir did not want to meet with the candidate.

Since we were confident in the competence of the candidate we recommended, we decided to convince the Board to meet with him. After the meeting, it turned out that the Board offered an offer to the initially rejected candidate, who did not have a perfectly prepared resume but was an expert in the area of technology and management of the E-Commerce department. After a few months, we know that he turned out to be a change leader who brought Avenir's E-Commerce business into new areas in terms of revenue and technology. We are pleased that we were able to convince the Board of Directors of our candidate, who is one of the top performers in the Company. This is how we completed the Head of IT recruitment.
